Rowan Ives, MHC Art Therapy Intern

he/they

I am a current student at Antioch University Seattle, training in clinical mental health counseling with art therapy as my specialization. My background is in fine art and digital media and it has been my long held desire to utilize art in a therapeutic role to help others.

I take an integrative, systemic, and social justice oriented lens to therapy. I enjoy working with individuals to help them accept themselves with compassion and identify what is most important to them as a foundation for growth and change. I take a collaborative role with the client to both acknowledge the role that dominant societal narratives and systems of oppression have on our lives as well as to find ways to come together to discover potential strategies to thrive and find joy.

My trauma-informed approach draws from a variety of modalities, including attachment theory, somatics, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, and internal family systems. Above all, I believe in the importance of building a meaningful connection with the client so that they feel seen and supported within the therapeutic environment.
